I know, I know, it's been so long since I blogged! Blame it on Sid and Geno. Our beloved Pens went on an NHL record perfect March win streak. Insane. Eliana has really been enjoying watching hockey games both on TV and in person. She has already attended 11 Pens games (more than half of our players have, haha).
Over the past couple of months, Eliana has really grown! At her 6 month check-up, she weighed over 16 pounds. She has outgrown her 6 month clothes already, so I had to scramble a little bit to find long-sleeved shirts. (Seriously, what is with this ridiculous winter weather in April? My kinders think I'm lying when I teach them that it's technically spring.) She is still on the slimmer side for a baby, but long. (Don't ask me how long; daddy took her to the check-up and apparently didn't write down little details like that.)
Here are some of her highlights:
- She is still very much a foot person. She loves to kick and wiggle her feet. We got her a bouncer because we thought she'd enjoy jumping-- and boy, does she ever! We had to put a pillow underneath her for a while because she couldn't reach the ground, but now if she leans a bit she can hop on one foot. It's pretty entertaining for all three of us, actually.
- She can now grab her toes and bring them to her mouth for some tasty snacking.
- She loves to blow raspberries, although she hasn't quite gotten the hang of them yet.
- She can hold her own bottle.
- She eats pears, apples, sweet potatoes, squash, prunes, and bananas. Rice cereal is apparently the devil.
- She loves to lick things, but she still has no teeth.
- She is still not a huge fan of tummy time, but she is getting much better at holding up her head and trying to skooch with her legs.
- She doesn't like to sleep in her crib-- too lonely, I think.
- She rolled over for the first time on April 4, 2013.
And now for the photos!
Eliana just turned 4 months old. According to the pediatrician:
- she weighs 13 lbs 7 oz
- she is 24 1/4 in long
- her head circumference is in the 67th percentile
She is definitely more smiley now, especially in the mornings. She just found her voice over the weekend and uses it most to yell at that presumptuous baby in the mirror. She likes to spend long stretches on her play mat, kicking the piano keys, swatting the toys, and staring at her reflection. Her favorite place to be is on her changing table-- who knows why! It is an instant happiness boost for her. Her 0-3 month clothes are now too short for her, though she is nowhere near fat enough to fill out the next size up. She can hold her head up pretty well, and she can also hold things in her hands, although she prefers not to. I guess she needs a manservant to do the heavy lifting for her. Her favorite TV show is football (but only because she hasn't been awake for hockey yet!).
We look forward to all the new things she will be able to do soon!
Why is it that as life gets fuller, it also grows more fleeting? Like the tassels swaying from my rear view mirror, my college self seems just behind me, yet here I find myself married for seven (!) years, with a career, a mortgage, and a baby. How did I get here so quickly? I am grateful for the many blessings God has showered upon us, yet by letting them slip by unaccounted for, I feel as though I've been remiss.
I'm hoping this blog will serve as a hope chest of sorts, collecting bits of memories for me and my family, but the teacher in me also wants it to be useful and relevant, with recipes, interesting links, and the like. I may be a bit (okay, a lot) ambitious, and I won't guarantee that anything I post will be interesting to anyone but me, but I guess that's the beauty of a blog, right?
So-- deep breath-- here I go! And I apologize in advance warn you about all of the baby photo bombs that are bound to happen. I'm a mom, it's my job!
